Today, it is very common to get photographs with embedded GPS locations. You can take these kinds of pictures easily with your own phone or camera. Latitude and longitude are stored as standard EXIF data in conjunction with other fields like date and time, camera model, exposure time, etc.

Available for AutoCAD, BricsCAD, ZWCAD and GstarCAD.

1. Import using SPMIMPORTPHOTO command

  • On your existing DWG or an empty one, execute SPMIMPORTPHOTO and select one or more located pictures.
  • Coordinate transformation will be applied automatically when required.

2. Select images and scale them if needed

  • You can make a quick selection and scale the images if you want to view them larger than the default size.

3. Alternative: Import all from palette

  • You can also do the same process directly from the palette (open it using the SPM command) and include other files in the same step. For example, you could import a GPX track or route and some photos taken around it.

4. Export to Google Earth

  • Optionally, you can publish to KML/KMZ to view your own photos located in Google Earth.

Other interesting use cases could be:

  • Take field pictures of street furniture (benches, street lamps, fountains, etc.) and then include them in your own DWG/DXF.
  • Document the condition of elements in utility networks (electric, water, etc.) and share them via Google Earth.
  • Create a catalog of vegetation (trees, hedges, flowers, etc.), import it into your CAD, and use it as an aid in drafting processes.

Note: Some features are available only in the Standard or Professional editions.
